My footsteps on Earth
Most of the places that I've travelled till now are mentioned above. I would love to travel to civilised worlds like Europe, less explored places like Artic & Antartic and incredibly fasinating places like Congo Basin!
There is so much to see in my own motherland India itself!

Wayanad - Way full of Ananda!
On an early Saturday morning around 3am; GS, LK, SP and I were ready to drive to Wayanad. All of us needed a break from life's routine and this trip was just to relax and enjoy rather than to move around seeing places. The trip started with my car autocop making loud sounds to wake up my neighbors. We then met up few other friends at Raja Rajeshwari nagar. We took a break at CafĂ© Coffee day Mysore Rd at 5am. Early mornings are so beautiful and rare! We, software professionals hadn’t watched the sun rise for ages!
We again broke our journey near Gundlupet to have breakfast. Next halt was at Bandipur to watch few monkeys cross the road. We could not sight any other animals. The forest grew thicker as we approached Kerala (Muthanga wildlife sanctuary), and the roads got better ;). I was telling SP that if something goes wrong with the car, then we gals are going to sit inside and he has to push the car. And he said “No way; I’m going to halt where ever the car stops and picnic over there itself”. Something was waiting for him in next few hours :)
We visited Banasurasagar Dam on our way to Vythiri. We crossed Vythiri and proceeded towards Lakkidi thinking our cottage was situated near Lakkidi. This place gets second highest rainfall in India after Chirapunji. On our way to Lakkidi, the ghat was covered with think fog and the visibility was low. The place looked heavenly with water trickling down the huge black rock on one side of the road and a deep valley on the other side.
We decided to stop for few minutes. All of us got down and were looking down the valley, when my car began to roll down the slope! SP saw it first as he was driving all that while and he tried stopping it from the front. I heard his scream, and looked back, the car was on it way down the road and SP was running in front of it! What a scene it was! There was a Maruti Zen some 20 feet away and any moment my car would bang into it! I didn’t know whether I should join SP (made no sense as I was sure our combined effort could not stop the car) or try something else. “Think quickly” I said to myself. Then I went running and tried to bend through the front window of the car to apply the hand break. The SLR hanging around my neck was coming in way and I had to keep pace with the car. I was afraid SP would get smashed between our car and the Zen. I was just praying he would move to the side, which he eventually did. Finally, I managed to apply the hand break and shift the gear to 1st gear. The car touched the Zen and came to a halt. Thank God there was no damage whatsoever. SP and I were completely shocked with the incident and took some time to recover. We still burst out laughing thinking about this incident. We continued our journey down the ghat and later found that we were heading in a wrong direction. Our cottage was in Vythiri itself! We had to drive back to Vythiri in the rain. All of us were starving by the time we reached our cottage.
The cottage was cozy and well furnished. We instantly liked it. It was also environment friendly. It made up for all the hours we had lost finding the resort. The drawing room opened up to a balcony that overlooked a stream. It was lush green all around the cottage. By the time we freshened up the food had arrived. It was authentic Kerala food! Hmm.. my mouth
still waters thinking about that food. The non-veggies always get a better deal in food than the veggies! That’s the price we veggies pay for being non-violent :(. We later slept for few hours and woke up only after LK started screaming! She was trying to wake us up for nearly an hour :). We had tea and hot pakodas. We later went on a short walk into the forest. Four of us were sitting in the forest lost into our own thoughts. I was thinking why our lives are not in tune with the nature? Why do we feel peaceful when we are surrounded by unspoilt nature? What do we want to achieve in this life? Why can’t we easily overcome the setbacks in our life?
We were back in our resort with an additional small company, a firefly. LK (303 ranking) was trying to answer why the fly glows at night. The explanation can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly. The entire resort was filled with the loud croaking sound of the frogs, they were trying to beat LK's screeches :)
The next day we visited the Pookot lake which was filled with water lilies. We started off to Bangalore at 5pm. On the way back we stopped at Muthanga for tea and then at Kamat Lokaruchi for dinner. The quality of Kamat Lokaruchi has decreased over the years. Moreover, my car got a dent when it was parked there :(. We reached Bangalore past 1am and were off to work the next day. Overall Wayanad is a very beautiful heavenly place and true to its name Kerala is God's own country.
Places to visit at Wayanad though we did not cover all of them :
Banasurasagar dam
Soojipara falls
Pookot lake
Kuruva islands
Chembra peak
Edakkal caves

We ordered food and got back to our cottage. The starters arrived first and we were having it while chatting in the balcony. LK was in full form, she zapped us all when she said "Rohini.. he is .... ". SP used to get high when we used to take his trip and used to say "If u are all happy, then I'm happy". What a philosophy in life! Lady on wheels... GS was busy walking.. walking and walking.. so we named her Jonnie Walker........ Keep walking :). We had an awesome time and laughed so much that we stopped feeling the burden of life! Finally we had our dinner and were in our beds by midnight. SP wanted to watch TV, but after LK's strict warning (she claims it to be a humble request), he switched off the TV.

This kid made my day!
There is a little girl ard 2.5 yrs old who comes to visit her granny staying next to my home. She is very cute but shy. Whenever I would speak to her, she would hide behind her mom or sister . One morning, I locked my house and I about to start my bike when I heard a sweet voice saying "bye bye akka". I turned around to see who it was, and it was her. She had come running out of her house just to say bye to me! Kids really are very sweet and can make your day by their innocent ways. Who would come running out of their house just to say bye so sweetly?
One other incident comes to my mind. My cousins(3 and 6yrs old) had returned from US and were staying at our place for few months. Every time I came home from work they would come running and hug me really tight! It would wipe away all my frustrations of the day. Kids express love so freely and innocently without any fear.

I wanna hug her once more..
I wish I could hug my mom once more, just once more.
Mom is such a wonderful creation of God. I remember one song from my school days...
God's love is so wonderful.. now I think it should be
mom's love is so wonderful..
so deep u cant get under it
so high u cant get over it
so wide u cant get around it
Oh.. wonderful love!
Losing mom is the worst thing that can happen. Even after nearly one and a half years of losing her, I cry like I have lost her yesterday. I have realised that, this life is going to be a lot tougher without her.
As soon as I lost her, I told myself that I have to be brave and face life. I told myself that I should support my dad more than ever. I thought that, as days and years pass by, I would slowly get over it. Now I know, I can never get over it. Whenever I come home she used to be there to welcome me, when I fell sick she was there to care, when I came home late she would be so worried, when I achieved something she was the first one I would tell, and she would feel proud. She was there for the smallest of my joys and through all my miseries. I am what I am because of my mom.
After she passed away, I have been getting lucky at all materialistic things. All that I had desired for, is coming true, as if my mom is doing it all for me, from up there. But, all I want is my mom, so that I could hug her and tell her how much she means to me and how much I love her.

White water rafting at Sita Nadi
My friends and I started off from Bangalore to Hebri (near Udupi) on a Friday night. Most of us were exited about the travel as we were traveling in a sleeper couch. We played UNO for sometime and then drifted off to sleep forgetting the hectic week and looking forward for the awaiting adventure.
We reached Hebri Forest guest house around 10am. It was raining and everything around looked fresh deep green. What a treat for our eyes! We met our friends who were supposed to join us from Mysore. The guide over there told us that we’ll be rafting only in the afternoon. So we had lots of time on our hands. We freshened up and had the yummy breakfast (Neer dosa, idli and vada). We were then sipping our coffee near the bridge looking at the other team who were all set to go rafting. The nature looked so perfect; the sita river was flowing to its brim, submerging a few trees and shrubs at its banks.
The shrubs never seem to mind, swaying along with the flow of water. It was raining and the rain drops made beautiful patterns in the water. We then trekked to a small shiva temple nearby. We saw a variety of gigantic butterflies. Everything was good except for the leeches. We later went to Hebri to have our lunch at a homely mess. Hmm.. the food was simple but tasty. We came back to the forest guest house and got ready to go rafting. We put on our life jackets and helmets and carried our rafts to the river. The instructor gave us instructions on how to row, how not to panic if we fell out of the raft and how to come back to the raft. We were a bit scared but the enthusiasm overcame the fear factor.
Gets it go.. off on the raft .. flowing along the river! Two rafts and a kayak sailed off together. A nepali person was our instructor. In the beginning he was just testing our rowing skills and gave us some rafting gyaan. He told us how he had lost his front tooth while rafting as if it would encourage us! In five minutes of our rafting, one guy from our raft lost control and fell into the water. We were stunned! Our instructor pulled him back on to our raft. He went on to tell that that this was nothing compared to rafting in rivers in foothills of Himalayas. Rafting went on with few peaceful moments. There was dense forest on both the sides of the river. We spotted a few birds like peacock, kingfisher etc. Then our guide said that there was a snake on a tree branch and we all were eager to see it. In our eagerness we rowed with so much of energy that my guide and few of us next him were right under the snake! It was a blank and white striped viper. Thankfully we rowed away from it with equal force. After that we rowed to a calm area and all of us jumped off the raft to float in water. I do not know swimming and it was a great experience floating in the water, looking towards the sky and rain drops hitting our face. By then a friend of mine who also didn’t know swimming had sailed off very far, he called for help which we never heardL. Finally he got hold of the kayak sailing nearby. He was hanging like a monkey to it until our raft arrived there. We missed our camera to capture this shot J After sometime we were nearing a pillar of a bridge,
and to our knowledge we were going to have a head on collision with it. We looked at our instructor questioningly and all he did was to laugh! In seconds our raft collided with the pillar and the front three guys/gals were thrown into the raft! We went on to fall into the raft yet again while passing a strong current. After all the excitement the rafting ended. We wanted more of it I say! Anyway all good things come to an end. We had lot more fun than the guys in the other raft because of our daring instructor. We returned back to the forest guest house and then, back to Namma Bengaluru with a memorable and adventurous rafting experience.

Speaking to an innocent child
I was busy coding on a boring Monday afternoon. Suddenly my phone rings and I pick the call thinking it is one of my colleagues. I say hello in a sleepy voice, and inturn I hear a very sweet child's voice saying "Hello, can I speak to Rohini Aunty?". My voice melted and I started to converse in my sweeted voice possible :). It was my colleague's daughter calling at my desk because she could not reach her dad on phone. I told her that I would ask her dad to call back when he returns to his seat. I asked her if she had any message for her dad. She enthusiastically said that she had become the monitor of her class! I congratulated her and ended the call.
After a minute she calls back and asks "Has my dad gone out to smoke?" For a second I went silent. We as grown ups dont realize what goes on in a child's mind when the elders do things that the child knows are bad. I was really touched by the words from an innocent child. If I were smoking, I really would have quit after speaking to this child.
